Meet some of our great tutors…some have been with us since the company started.
I tutor mainly in English, though I can also tutor German and Philosophy if required. I graduated with joint honours (2.1) in English and Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh and recently returned there after a career in publishing to study for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education in English. I’ve been working with Morag at the Tutor Company for almost 5 years now, and greatly enjoy the experience of working 1:1 with pupils. I find that we can explore a text much more deeply together than is possible in a classroom situation, and it certainly gets results, both in examination and folio work and, I hope, in stimulating a greater love for literature with pupils.

I’m the UK’s only graduate in MA English and Mathematics in 2020. I received a First in both subjects and several Academic Excellence and extracurricular awards. My mission is to maximise a student’s potential, to go beyond any limitations set by themselves or society. It’s not just about acing exams, it’s about shaping the ability to think differently, letting them flourish outside the box so they naturally come to enjoy and excel in the subject. I will build up a student’s confidence, because nothing is ever ‘too complicated’ – it just hasn’t been broken down or explained well enough yet.

I appreciate that everyone learns in different ways, therefore I am open-minded and flexible in my approach to teaching.

As an English Literature and History graduate from the University of Dundee, I tutor in English and History and enjoy it immensely. Having previously tutored during my degree, I have taken the opportunity to continue as I apply for an MA in Museum Studies. Having understood the need for adaptability during my years of tutoring, I ensure that tutorials are tailored to the student’s needs, creating lesson plans with clear aims and objectives that see that the student’s wants are met. English and History are both interesting subjects and I enjoy encouraging the appreciation of learning amongst my tutee’s while also garnering great results.

I graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a first-class degree in electrical and mechanical engineering and now tutor Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Science and Geography. I worked as a tutor at University teaching Fluid Mechanics and gained a lot of satisfaction in helping students overcome challenges and achieve better results. I find that being able to explore a topic 1 on 1 with a tutee provides a more effective environment for breaking down difficult subjects they are struggling with and can create better opportunities to make a subject more fun and dynamic – anyone can learn to love maths!
